3D-computer animation provides us with the freedom to combine the 2D-cartoon world with the cinematic possibilities of capabilities of the 3D world. The movement is not bound to the real world as we can completely create the atmosphere with our own materials, lighting and camera lenses. We search for an atmosphere on the one hand of a depressive home for the elderly and on the other hand a nostalgic image of faded memories relived.
We combine this visual style with extreme dynamic animation, inspired by cartoons from the 1950's. The cartoons of the fifties worked well because of their absurdity. They had clear image lines and told a story in a comic way. The purpose of animation is to create caricature, exaggerate actions, give life to lifeless objects and stimulate the fantasy through creating an unreal world that in the eye of the viewer comes across naturally due to its identifiable theme:
Through the use of traditional animation rules of methods (like squash and stretch, and dynamic follow-through) the created dynamic world comes to life. This is supported by traditional drawing techniques, which are especially evident in the backgrounds. We want to register a style that we have not encountered before in 3D-computer animation where the combinations of the described techniques play a greater role.
